Infiniti QX80 Monograph officially unveiled

The Infiniti QX80 Monograph has been fully unwrapped today, showcasing a new concept which previews the next-generation QX80 flagship SUV. According to Infiniti, the QX80 Monograph is designed to explore “upscale luxury” and signaling the brand’s intention to further develop its standing in the full-size luxury SUV segment”.

Bearing similar striking details from the company’s earlier concepts, the QX80 Monograph features the latest evolution of the brand’s double arch grille, which appears wider, more rigid and more angular than before. There are also new matrix LED headlights and taut, muscular lines flowing over sculpted surfaces. At the rear the crescent-cut D-pillar has been reshaped.

The QX80 Monograph features a matte paint finish, following positive feedback from recent Infiniti concepts completed with a similar effect. The desaturated color and satin-like surface provide a textured contrast to the gloss chrome and brushed aluminum elements around the concept.

Straight-spoke, two-tone wheels – 24 inches in diameter – are finished in chromium black with contrasting brushed copper elements. The outer edges of the wheels overlap the tires, presenting the appearance of a 26-inch wheel and low profile tires to complement the scale of the QX80 Monograph, which measures over five meters long, almost two meters tall (including roof rails), and more than two meters wide (door mirrors folded).

The dynamic design seems almost production ready and looks nothing like the current generation model (below), which is largely based on the Nissan Patrol.

Infiniti says the new concept combines luxury with a commanding presence and demonstrates the high levels of space and utility for which the QX80 production car is renowned. Originating at Infiniti’s design studio in Atsugi, Japan, the QX80 Monograph is “the ultimate expression of futuristic luxury SUV design and illustrates how the design of the QX80 could evolve”.

“The QX80 Monograph represents a detailed study into our expertise of exterior design,” said Roland Krueger, President of Infiniti. “QX80 Monograph shows our concept of luxury and style on the road, and is an exploration into how we could enhance our future Infiniti offering in the luxury SUV segment.”

The next-generation Infiniti QX80 is expected to arrive next year, in time to compete against the new BMW X7 and Audi Q9.
