Starting today, selected models from Hyundai’s lineup will be eligible for a free software update that will enable Apple’s CarPlay within their vehicle.

Apple’s highly advanced smartphone support technology offers seamless integration with existing iPhone architectures to provide a vast array of features, including safe access to Apple Maps navigation, Siri command functions – including hands-free phone calls, messaging and dictation – music, calendar entries, apps and more. Commands also can be entered via the vehicles’ touchscreen.

Eligible owners can upgrade to Apple CarPlay via an easily applied software upgrade. Taking just 15 minutes, the upgrade is carried out free of charge at Hyundai dealership service departments.

“The beauty of Apple CarPlay TM is that it is powered by your iPhone, it is dynamic and connected and therefore, easily updated,” says Senior Manager Product Planning, Andrew Tuitahi. “When Apple improves these systems, by tweaking performance, adding functionality, or enabling new apps, they will immediately be available in your vehicle.”

The update won’t restrict functionality to just Apple devices, the updated audio system provides Google Now via voice activation. The voice button on the radio will allow customers to make calls, play music, compose messages, access calendar information and more.

The Google Now voice activation system will be updated to Google’s Android Auto technology in Hyundai vehicles later this year.

Currently the update is available on selected i30 Series II, All-new Tucson and Santa Fe Series II models with further models to come. A list of compatible models can be found below.
