Volkswagen has launched its facelifted 2015 Polo range in Australia, bringing new, more efficient engines and new infotainment and assistance systems.

Available only in two trim levels – the entry-level 66TSI Trendline, and the range-topping 81TSI Comfortline. The range will also kick off with a lower pricing, starting from just $15,990 driveaway for the 66TSI Trendline manual – $700 cheaper than the old model.

Dropped from the new line up is the 66TDI Comfortline model, while the new GTI is expected to arrive in 2015.

Both 2015 models are powered by a new 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, with the 66TSI getting 66kW of power and 160Nm of torque, and the 81TSI getting 81kW of power and 175Nm of torque. Both engines get engine start/stop and are married with manual transmissions as standard, with a five-speed for the 66TSI and a six-speed for the 81TSI. A seven-speed dual-clutch DSG is available as a $2,500 option for both.

The 66TSI returns an average of 4.8 litres per 100km for both manual and DSG, which is identical to the DSG-equipped 81TSI, while the manual 81TSI uses slightly more at 4.9 litres per 100km.

The new Polo can be identified by sharper front and rear designs, including a restyled grille, headlights, front and rear bumpers, as well as different tail-light inlays.

2015 Volkswagen Polo 5.0-inch media system

Inside, the Polo has been brought up to late with a 5.0-inch colour touchscreen media system, a new steering wheel, climate controls and revised seat fabrics. However, due to the switch to the new-generation media system, satellite navigation (previously available with a larger 6.1-inch touchscreen) is now unavailable.

Volkswagen has bundled two option packs for the range-topping Polo Comfortline model.

The Driving Comfort Package, priced at $1,500, brings Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Fatigue Detection System, Front Assist with City Emergency Brake function, rain-sensing wipers and a rear view camera with static guidance lines.
