Electrified Mercedes Vision EQ Silver Arrow – Supercar from the future?

Mercedes-Benz has given us a glimpse of the future with its spectacular all-electric Vision EQ Silver Arrow concept, which made its debut at the Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach in California.

Billed as a homage to the successful record-breaking W125 from 1937, the single-seater is approximately 5.3 metres long and features a body structure made of carbon fibre.

The low-slung and futuristic body is highlighted by bulging wheel arches and a rear central fin that reminds us of the upcoming Project One. Those massive 24-inch front and 25-inch rear wheels each feature 168 spokes made of lightweight aluminium and are painted in a rose gold colour – a trademark for the EQ.

Mercedes says the concept’s multi layers alubeam silver paintwork is reminiscent of the historic Silver Arrows and appear like liquid metal over the car’s body.

Inside, the interior is dominated by traditional, high-quality materials such as genuine leather, polished aluminium and solid walnut.

The digital cockpit includes a curved panoramic screen with back projection, as well as a touchscreen integrated into the steering wheel.

The Vision EQ Silver Arrow is purely a showcar but Mercedes has envisioned its electric powertrain to produce 550kW, fed from a battery pack mounted within the underbody and cooled by the side air vents. Fully charged, the car has a range of more than 400km in the WLTP cycle.

“Over 80 years ago, the historic Silver Arrows demonstrated that Mercedes-Benz was a pioneer when it came to speed thanks, among other things, to their streamlined shape,” says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Daimler AG.

“The Vision EQ Silver Arrow draws on that legacy. Intended for acceleration and driving pleasure, it embodies progressive luxury and provides an insight into the future of our design.

“As a result, the show car drives the design idiom of our new EQ product and technology brand to the top.”
