Citroën has officially unveiled its facelifted DS3/DS3 Cabrio twins. Headlining the mid-life makeover is a new set of headlights combining LED and Xenon modules with sequential indicators said to be inspired by the Numéro 9 and Wild Rubis concepts.

Citroën said the new headlights offer exceptional lighting performance in both dipped and high-beam mode, while consuming 35% less energy in dipped mode, and a substantial 75% less in high-beam mode compared to conventional halogen headlights. They also last twenty times longer and boasts a lifetime of around 20,000 hours.

The LED modules have been arranged to provide a distinctive signature and the sequential indicators is a class first.

At the other end, both DS3 and DS3 Cabrio retain their distinctive 3D-effect LED rear lights, with a chrome finished DS logo in a black embossed DS pattern setting. The existing LED daytime running lights on the bumper has been retained to compliment the new lighting signature at the front of both cars.

Citroën is also introducing a new range of personalisation options, with selected versions of the DS3 available with a choice of a laser-etched dashboard strip and a screen-printed rear window. Colour options have also been enhanced, with the addition of Pearl White as a body colour on both models. Belle-Ile Blue is also introduced on the DS3 Cabrio. New 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are available on selected models.

The DS3 range also gain new Euro 6-compliant diesel and petrol engines. The BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 100 both offer more power and lower emissions, thanks to the use of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which cuts NOx emissions by 90%, while reducing CO2 emission by up to 4%.

The BlueHDi 100 is said to be class-leading in terms of emissions, producing a claimed 79g/km of CO2, while the BlueHDi 120 emits a claimed 94g/km of CO2. The lesser version can return up to 3L/100km (78.2 mpg US/94 mpg UK), with the more powerful unit promising 3.6L/100km (65 mpg US/78 mpg UK).
