BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition introduced

BMW has launched a special edition M4 to celebrate BMW Motorsport Works Driver Marco Wittmann’s second DTM drivers’ title in two years.

Limited to 200 units worldwide, the M4 DTM Champion Edition is based on the M4 GTS track special and delivers a power output that has been lifted to 368kW and 600Nm, up from the standard M4’s 317kW / 550Nm.

The extra power comes from an innovative water injection technology featured in the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine. The car draws from a five-litre water tank (mounted in the luggage compartment floor) to spray water mist into the engine’s air intake collector. Capable of reducing combustion chamber temperatures by around 25 degrees Celsius, the water injection system allows more efficient combustion, enabling higher charging pressure (from 2.2 to 2.5bar) and an earlier ignition point.

Matched to a seven-speed dual clutch DCT transmission, the M4 DTM edition offers supercar-taming performance – 0 to 100km/h is accomplished in just 3.8 seconds, en route to a top speed of 305km/h.

Handling has also been further enhanced through an individually adjustable 3-way coilover suspension, allowing the car’s handling characteristics to be adapted according to personal taste.

Optimal contact with the road is ensured by Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-performance tyres measuring 265/35 R19 at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear designed specifically for use on the racetrack and mounted on light alloys boasting a star spoke design 666 M in Orbit Grey matt. Elsewhere, M carbon-ceramic brakes guarantee fade-free braking even in tough racing conditions.

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition is exclusively available in Alpine White and features various aerodynamics components finished in carbon fibre, giving the car a distinctive racing car look. These include the front splitter, the aero flicks positioned in front of the front wheel arches, exterior mirror caps, side skirt attachments, a rear diffuser and large rear wing.

Inside, the two-seater special edition model sports M Carbon bucket seats wrapped in Alcantara/Leather Merino. The lightweight fabric is also applied to the steering wheel, headlining and centre console. Behind the front bucket seats, a white rollover bar replaces the rear seat system.

In terms of comfort and safety, the special edition model features BMW navigation system Professional, air conditioning, adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam (glare-free high beam assistant), OLED taillights, Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear as well as automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors.

The M4 DTM Champion Edition carries a sticker price of 148,500 Euros in Germany.
