BMW M3 DTM Race Car for 2012 Season Unveiled

The new DTM racer for BMW was unveiled in Munich. The BMW M3 DTM race car will compete in the 2012 DTM championship, signifying BMW’s long awaited return to the sports after a long absence since 1994.

The new race car is made almost entirely out of carbon fiber. Power comes from a 4 Litre V8 engine producing 480 horsepower.

Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus have been named as the drivers for the team when the new season starts next year.

“The DTM will be a big challenge for us all,” said Priaulx. “Together with BMW, I have celebrated success in many different disciplines and behind the wheel of some fantastic racing cars in recent years. I am more than confident that this will also be the case in the DTM. The BMW M3 DTM looks fantastic. I can hardly wait to get to know the car better in the coming tests, to contribute to its development, and ultimately to sit in the cockpit for the first DTM race in 2012.”

BMW’s return to the DTM championship is great news for many fans of the sports. The BMW racing team was one of the most successful teams in the DTM series between 1984 and 1992 with three titles, 49 wins, 64 Fastest Laps and 30 pole positions.
