BMW i8 Concept Spyder Unveiled @ 2012 Beijing Motor Show

The 2012 Beijing Auto Show saw the premier of the BMW i8 Concept Spyder. It is also the first time the eDrive emblem is put on any BMW. The eDrive is BMW’s i Division’s designation for all electric and plug-in hybrid drive technology.

It describes the electric drivetrain, which is comprised of: the electric motor developed in-house by BMW, the lithium-ion battery and the intelligent motor management system.

BMW is working hard on making its range of electric and hybrid vehicles as driveable as their fossil fuel powered counterparts. Electric motors generate their maximum torque right from the start and the acceleration unfolds continuously until the top speed is achieved. BMW’s eDrive technology is said to ensure that the electromobility of its i range of vehicles offers a unique, yet familiar driving experience.
