Aussie-bound 2019 Chevrolet Camaro unveiled

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off its facelifted 2019 Camaro which is set to hit Australian showrooms later this year.

The updated range boasts performance-oriented styling, new features, active safety technology, as well as the first-ever Turbo 1LE model.

The new Turbo 1LE is Chevrolet’s answer to the Ford Mustang EcoBoost and features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 205kW and 400Nm of torque. It is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The model rides on an FE3 suspension with larger diameter front and rear stabilizer bars, specifically tuned dampers, stiffer rear cradle bushings and cross-axis ball joints in the rear tow links that enhance lateral stiffness. It rolls on split P245/40R20 (front) and P275/35R20 (rear) tyres.

Aussie fans of the muscle car can also look forward to a 10-speed automatic transmission with custom launch control and line lock which will debut on the Camaro SS, along with Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 systems with sat-nav, an enhanced Performance Data Recorder system, a new Rear Camera mirror and Forward Collision Alert.

According to Chevrolet, the car’s new look is predominantly driven by performance, as the grille, bonnet and air vents were all designed for optimised air flow to either cool components or help reduce drag/lift.

There is greater front fascia distinction between models, too, with the SS getting the flowtie (open bowtie) grille emblem, aero-enhancing air curtains, different headlights with new LED signature and an extractor-style bonnet.

Inside, the Infotainment 3 system features a 7-inch touchscreen as standard (8-inch offered as an option) with cloud connection, sat-nav, voice recognition, apps and over-the-air software updates.
