Mazda has announced that the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 (rendering shown) will be unveiled simultaneously in three different global locations – Japan, USA and Europe – on September 4, 2014.

To coincide with the unveiling, Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the Mazda Roadster Thanks Day in Japan at Maihama Amphitheater in Urayasu city, Chiba.

The event is intended to express Mazda’s gratitude to all the fans that have supported the Mazda MX-5 over the past 25 years.

Since its launch in 1989, the MX-5 has consistently offered the kind of fun that only a lightweight sports car can. With the new MX-5, Mazda has decreed that its engineers trim 275kg from the 1,075kg ‘empty’ kerb weight of today’s MX-5 to aim for an ambitious target of 800kg.

Every component would come under the spot light, from nuts and bolts to the car’s body structure. Many of these developments will come under Mazda’s range of light and efficient engines.
