2018 Suzuki Swift Sport makes Australian debut

The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport hot hatch has made its Australian debut bringing a raft of changes including a more powerful turbocharged engine, a lower and wider stance and new safety and technology features.

Priced from $25,490 plus on-road costs for the Swift Sport Manual, the new model swaps the naturally aspirated engine of its forebear with a 1.4-litre BoosterJet turbocharged four-cylinder producing 103kW and 230Nm of torque – an increase of 3kW and 70Nm.

According to Suzuki, the pairing of the BoosterJet engine which offers high torque from low revs (2,500-3,000rpm) with the Swift Sport’s compact dimensions and sub one-tonne kerb weight should be music to the ears of sports-minded drivers. Impressively, the new model is 80kg lighter than the outgoing model.

Swift Sport chief engineer Mr Masao Kobori said, “We know that our customers value a dynamic driving experience above everything else, so for the third-generation Swift Sport our development concept was Ultimate Driving Excitement.”

“We’ve made the all-new Swift Sport lighter, faster and more stimulating in every way!” continued Kobori.

The new Swift Sport features an aggressive staggered black honeycomb grille, thin spoke 17-inch polished alloy wheels, dual exhausts, LED headlamps, daytime running lights and fog lamps. Carbon fibre look front bumper highlights, under spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser.

Inside, the semi-bucket seats are embossed with the “Sport” logo, red stitching throughout, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, red highlights across the dash and sports alloy pedals.

Standard features include keyless start and entry, electric folding mirrors, driver multi information colour LCD, climate control, 7-inch multi-touch colour display unit with sat-nav, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, reverse camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Swift Sport has been awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and features 6 airbags and electronic stability control. In addition, advanced preventative safety features include autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, weaving alert, high beam assist and adaptive cruise control.

Capped Price Servicing provides owners with scheduled maintenance service costs capped for 5 years or 100,000km. Additionally when customers service their Suzuki vehicle under the Capped Price program for 5 years, Suzuki will extend the vehicles Warranty from 3 to 5 years providing customers with further reassurance and peace of mind.

The new Swift Sport comes with five colour choices – pure white pearl, champion yellow, super black pearl, mineral grey and speedy blue and a choice of a 6-speed auto (with paddle shift) or 6-speed manual transmission.
