The car’s refreshed exterior gets new bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and taillights, plus a restyled front bumper with aerodynamic blades and LED indicator lights and new rear bumper.

Inside, the dashboard is carried over but gets a trio of auxiliary dials above the centre console comprising a chronometer, charge pressure and oil temperature gauges. There are also new instruments and a new flat-bottom steering wheel, both of which are borrowed from the Mk7 Golf R.

Crucially, the updated Scirocco R now includes a Rear View Camera and front and rear parking sensors as standard.

As the Scirocco R still sits on the old Mk V Golf platform, it carries over the older 188kW/330Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, instead of the latest Golf R’s 206kW/380Nm unit.
