2014 Volkswagen Golf R teased ahead of possible Frankfurt reveal

A number of French websites have posted this single purported teaser photo of the upcoming 2014 Volkswagen Golf R.

Although we are unable to verify its legitimacy, it does show the most aggressive iteration of the Golf 7, with a pair LED-infused headlight, lower and deeper front bumper and “R” badging on the grille.

Power will come from an all-new EA888 series 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that is likely to generate around 213kW and 379Nm of torque. Paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission and a new Haldex all-wheel drive system that is lighter and more responsive than its predecessor, the 2014 Golf R will likely take around 5 seconds to launch from 0 – 100km/h and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

As with the latest generation of Golf, the Mk7 Golf R will benefit from a light weight chassis, courtesy of Volkswagen’s latest MQB platform.

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf 4 could likely make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
