2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes-Benz has released a teaser video of the upcoming 2014 C-Class sedan. In a series of close up shots of the interior and a final blurry frontal shot of the exterior, we can just make out the face of the new C-Class. In silhouette, the luxury sedan will look like a mini S-Class, while the interior will have higher quality materials and fit and finish.

The W205 C-Class will officially bow in at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2014. Built on Mercedes’ new MRA platform that will also underpin the next-generation GLK, the new car will be slightly longer than the outgoing model, with its wheelbase stretched by 90mm to 2,850mm. It will also be lighter, with 80kg trimmed off.

Its engine lineup will consist of 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder powerplants that are either carried over or completely new. According to Autocar Magazine in the UK, the entire lineup will continue to utilise longitudinal mounting but the motors will be installed further back behind the front axle for improved weight distribution and safety.

Like the E-Class, a hybrid powerplant is also expected in the new generation C-Class. Drive will continue to be sent to the rear wheels via standard 6-speed manual gearbox, while an optional 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic will also be available. Like the E-Class, some markets will get the optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive system as well.

A C-Class liftback is expected to join the range in 2015 to see of the BMW 3 Series GT. A C63 AMG model with a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 generating 391kW (525bhp) is also on the cards.
