2014 Kia Optima Platinum front quarter

Kia’s face lifted Optima is now on sale in Australia with more equipment and a slightly higher price. The most prominent feature for the 2014 refresh is the sedan’s front fog lights that are made up of a pod of four LEDs. Its LED daytime running lights have also migrated from the bumper up onto the headlights.

At the back, there’s an updated rear diffuser and a sweeping boot lid which integrates a functional aerodynamic lip. Its rear taillights have also been redesigned, with LEDs for illumination for all but the entry level model.

Rounding off the exterior makeover is revised 18-inch machine finish alloy wheels shod in 225/45 R18 tyres.

Inside, there is a new steering wheel and the seats now have larger side bolsters and additional under-thigh support. The bright chrome interior trim highlights have been replaced with satin finish trim while the centre fascia is now finished in high-gloss black.

Kia also claims improved NVH (by 3.3dB) thanks to stiffer 18-inch alloy rim, the replacement of woven material with BCF (bulked continuous filament) for the rear-wheel guard, additional sealant on the dashboard and a rear cross member dynamic damper for reduced booming.

For the first time in a Kia the 2014 Optima will be equipped with a Blind Spot Detection system to assist drivers monitor traffic around the vehicle when changing lanes.

Powering the range is the familiar 2.4-litre GDI petrol engine developing 148kW of power and 250Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and returns an average consumption of 7.9L/100km.

With the addition of front parking sensors the Optima Si is now $30,990 while the Optima SLi comes in at $35,990 with the addition of front parking sensors and leather trim.

The range-topping Platinum is now $40,490 and comes with the addition of front parking sensors, a high-end TFT information screen, Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist as well as a ventilated seat for the front passenger.
