2014 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 likely to have up to 700bhp

Now that the 2013 Chevrolet Stingray has been revealed, the rumour mills have started churning on the upcoming Z06 and ZR1 successors.

According to a report by Motor Trend, the new Z06 will carry over its 7.0-litre V8 engine. However, it will be tweaked to liberate more power. In fact, it has been suggested that power will increase from 377kW (505bhp) to 447kW (600bhp). If true, the new Z06 will only be 24kW (38bhp) short of the power output of the outgoing ZR1!

As for the next-generation ZR1, it is expected to use a supercharged version of the new 6.2-litre LT1 V8 mill. Nobody knows yet how much power it will churn out, but some have suggested it could possibly have 503kW (675bhp) or 522kW (700bhp).

Whatever the final output the ZR1 will have, rest assured that Chevrolet will want it to have a distinct advantage over the Z06.

The Z06 is probably at least a year ahead, with the ZR1 not expected until 2015 or 2016.
