2014 C7 Chevrolet Corvette Caught Testing

These spy photos are the latest of what appear to be the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette C7 undergoing cold weather testing in the northern regions of America. The profile of this shot tells us that Chevrolet will stick with tradition and retain the American muscle car’s wedge-like silhouette.

The new car will however sport curvier lines with slightly flared wheel-arches. It may also sit on a longer wheelbase to liberate more room in the passenger compartment. It is also clear that the C7 will retain the old car’s trademark quad exhaust system and distinctive tail lights.

Production of the 2014 C7 Corvette will start next year. There are widespread speculations that new Corvette will utilise an all-aluminium frame or even some carbon-fibre construction.

However, insiders have quashed these speculations saying that the Corvette is practically a light car already and complicated and expensive weight reduction construction technique might not be required.

The choice of engine powering the new coupé is also the subject of much speculation. The current top of the range model is motivated by a 6.2-litre V8, but GM’s latest twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 is a distinct possibility. A 7-speed manual transmission is also likely.
