2014 Audi R8 GT facelift caught testing at Nürburgring

The limited edition Audi R8 GT was launched back in 2010 and all 333 examples of it were sold in no time. Compared to the standard R8, the GT gets an extra 26 kW of power and is 100 kg lighter thanks to lightweight construction.

Recently, the German car maker has been spotted testing a new GT based on the facelifted R8 at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in Germany. Striking features of what could be a more hardcore version of the R8 GT include a fixed rear wing, front splitter, restyled headlights, side canards and a more aggressive rear diffuser. The test car also features a revised radiator grille, air intakes and a smaller exterior mirrors.

The current Audi R8 GT is motivated by a mid-mounted 5.2-litre V10 engine that punches out 417 kW of power. This unit is expected to be carried across but tweaked to raise power up to around 450 kW. The current six-speed sequential automated manual transmission is expected to make way for a new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The new Audi R8 GT is expected to debut in 2014.
