2013 Nissan Pulsar launched from $19,990

The all-new 2013 Nissan Pulsar is back, after a seven years sabbatical. It will take the mantle back from the unloved Nissan Tiida from 1 February.

Priced from $19,990 for the entry-level ST variant, the Pulsar will initially be available in sedan body style only, with the five-door hatch joining the line-up in mid 2013. The come-back kid will fight in the ultra-competitive small car market that is currently dominated by the Mazda3.

Standard features on the Pulsar ST include six airbags, electronic stability control, 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and a multi-function steering wheel.

Stepping up to the ST-L trim at $23,650 buys a 4.3” colour display, USB, Bluetooth and iPod music streaming, premium cloth trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear spoiler, LED daytime running lights and front fog lights.

The range-topping Pulsar Ti gains push-button start, 17-inch alloy wheels, 5.8″ display with satellite-navigation, leather seats, xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control and a reverse camera for $28,990.

All variants are propelled by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 96kW of power and 174Nm of torque. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard on the ST and ST-L, and a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) on the Ti ($2,250 option on the ST and ST-L).

The three-tier range will eventually be topped out by a Pulsar SSS model, powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine.
