Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4Matic+ on sale now; 0-100km/h in 3.8s

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ has arrived in Australia in both wagon and coupe body styling and promising to be the fastest SUV pair in Australia, capable of dashing from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The pair features AMG’s now familiar 4.0-litre biturbo V8 that churns out 375kW at 5,500-6,250rpm and 700Nm of torque from 1,750 to 4,500rpm. It is mated with AMG’s 9-speed dual-clutch transmission, which made its debut in the Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+ with double-declutching function and an all-wheel drive system.

There are five drive programs, including Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Race and Individual, which modifying key parameters such as engine response, transmission, suspension, steering, ESP and the all-wheel drive system.

The GLC 63 S also comes with a performance exhaust system with flap technology for variable engine sound, depending on the drive program selected.

To improve traction, the pair is equipped with an electronic rear limited-slip differential, while stopping power comes courtesy of AMG’s high-performance composite braking system. The front discs measure 390 x 36mm, whilst the rears are 360 x 26mm.

Visually, the GLC 63 S sports AMG’s Panamericana grille, which was previously reserved for the AMG GT models. The wide front apron is said to be inspired by the design of a jet wing, with a large front splitter. The car’s wider wheel arch claddings also emphasis its muscular looks.

At the back, there’s a spoiler lip on the roof, with the spoiler lip on the Coupe shared with the GLC 43 4MATIC.

Inside, the cabin gains a Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber, leather-appointed AMG performance seats and AMG instrument cluster with a Race Timer.

Customer can option their car with a $4,500 Exterior Carbon Package that includes AMG carbon-fibre mirror housings and an AMG carbon-fibre rear lip spoiler on the Coupe, or an extension on the wagon.

An AMG High Performance Ceramic Braking System offering compound ceramic front discs measuring 402 x 39mm clamped by a 6-piston fixed calipers and 360 x 26mm rears with single-piston conbined floating calipers is also available at $7,500. The calipers are painted with “AMG Carbon Ceramic” lettering.

Finally, the GLC 63 S is available at launch as an “Edition 1” special model with distinctive paintwork in designo Selenite Magno, yellow sports stripes on the lower door and mirror housing, 21-inch AMG Cross-Spoke ally wheels in black with a yellow rim flange, AMG Aerodynamics package comprising additional large front spoiler, enlarged rear diffuser with diffuser spoiler lip and specific spoiler lip in the rear area in high-gloss black; AMG High Performance Ceramic Braking System; AMG Performance seats in black nappa leather with yellow cross-stitching in diamond pattern; AMG Matt carbon-fibre interior trim; AMG Performance steering wheel in DINAMICA with a yellow marker at the 12 o’clock position; yellow highlights in the instrument clustert; and dashboard and door trims finished in yellow topstitching.
